Matthew Myers Memorial Scholarship 5K Run/Walk

Matt’s Run is a campus tradition that celebrates communications student Matthew Myers and raises money for student scholarships. After Matt’s death in 2005, his family wanted to honor his passion for serving others and inspire others. The 5k unites hundreds of people to run, walk and raise money for student scholarships.

Why Attend?

Matt’s Run is an annual campus tradition that celebrates the life of Matthew Myers and raises money for student scholarships. Run past Cal Poly Pomona’s scenic landscape, which includes citrus groves, historic buildings, and pastures for cows, goats, sheep and Arabian horses.

The registration fee is $20 for students and $35 for general registration. Day of event registration is an additional $5. All pre-registered participants will receive a custom event T-shirt, race bib, logo item, water and snacks after the race.

Matt Myers

Matthew Myers was a communications student who died in 2005 after a car struck him on campus. He was an avid runner, and the 5K run/walk is designed to bring the community together to keep his memory and passion alive.

Race Day Schedule
06:30 AM Check-in and Registration

Pre-Registered runners should pick up their race bibs in Parking Lot F8 on the Oak Lane side. Day-of-event registration (late registration) takes place at the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center on Kellogg Drive.

07:00 AM Stretch

Stretch and warm up for the race with the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Fitness Center.

08:00 AM Race Begins!

Walk, jog or run the 5K through Cal Poly Pomona’s scenic campus.

09:30 AM Awards Ceremony

The top finishers from each age category will be awarded. Also, the Matt’s Run scholarship winners will be recognized. The ceremony takes place at the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center.

10:00 AM Post-Race Festivities

Join us for a hot dog BBQ presented by the Greek Council. Also, stop at the Farm Store for the annual Pumpkin Festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday. The College of Agriculture also hosts its annual Insect Fair inside the Bronco Student Center.
