FAQ
- When and where is the run/walk going to be held?
- The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011 on the Cal Poly Pomona campus. The run/walk will start and finish near the Arabian Horse Center on Kellogg Drive. The map is available here.
- Where can I park?
- There will be plenty of available parking near the start of the race. Signs will direct participants and volunteers to the parking structure.
- How do I register?
- You can register online here. Interested runners may contact Donna Holman at dmholman@csupomona.edu (909)869-4731. You are also required to have the following waiver https://register.dsa.csupomona.edu//2011mattsrunwaiver to participate in the race. Please note: No one is allowed on the course without a properly issued “bib” race number. Please watch your children at all times.
- Is on-line registration secure?
- Yes. We use the most secure online technology called Secure Socket Layers or SSL that encrypts your personal and credit card information while transferring it from your internet browser to the our servers. You can also view the double security of the little yellow lock that will appear on the bottom of your browser window.
- What is the registration/entry fee and what is included in the fee?
- The pre-registration fee is $30 for adults and $15 for students with school ID. This includes an event t-shirt, tumbler cup, runner ID number as well as snacks and drinks on site.
- Can I register on the day of the event?
- Yes, but there is a slight fee increase to $35 for adults and $20 for students with school ID. There is also no guarantee that you will receive a t-shirt and commemorative tumbler cup if you register the day of the race.
- Is there an age limit on who can participate?
- No. Anyone can participate. We ask that all children be under parent supervision at all times and a waiver is completed by their parents. No one is allowed on the course without a properly issued “bib” race number.
- Are strollers or wheelchairs allowed?
- Yes. However, in an effort to keep all participants safe, it is essential that these line up in the back of the race to allow the competitive runners to take off first. A waiver will need to be completed for any child.
- Are bikes, roller blades, skates, skateboards or scooters allowed on the course?
- No. For the safety of all participants, bikes, roller blades, skates, skateboards, scooters and wheelies are not permitted at the event.
- Are pets allowed?
- No. Pets are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs. For their safety and the safety of others, we encourage you not to bring your pet to campus.
- When and where is the t-shirt & number pick-up?
- All items will be distributed on site the morning of the race at a booth for pick-up.
- Where can I put my personal belongings?
- For security reasons, it is recommended that you NOT bring anything of value with you if you volunteer or participate in the run.
- How long is the course?
- It is a 5K run/walk through the Cal Poly Pomona campus. The course is 5 kilometers or 3.1 miles.
- How can I sign up as a volunteer?
- Visit the Be a Volunteer section for more info. All volunteers are required to complete the 2011 Matt’s Run Volunteer form. (Please click here.) The Volunteer link will close after we have obtained the number of volunteers we need.
- When and where do volunteers report?
- There will be a special correspondence to all volunteers as we approach the race date, (by the 13th 5pm), directing everyone where to report and at what time.
- Will water be provided during the run/walk?
- Yes. There will be plenty of water and other snacks on site.
- Are there any awards or prize money?
- There will be awards for the top runners/walkers, however, no prize money.
- Is the race going to be canceled if it rains?
- At this time, we are planning to have the race, rain or shine.
- Can my family/friends come and watch me participate?
- Absolutely! Everyone is welcome. Spectators, please stay clear of the course and off the roads to avoid interfering with the participants.

- Can I make donations to scholarship even though I can’t participate in the run/walk?
- Yes. You can either use our secure online registration form and choose the “I can not attend the event, but I wish to donate” option or you may contact Laura Peterson at 909-869-4852.
- Where do the proceeds go?
- With your participation in Matt’s 5K Run/Walk, you will help support the Matthew Myers Memorial Fund. Proceeds to the fund will help award annual scholarships to Cal Poly Pomona Students determined to walk their course in the midst of difficulties.
- What is the Matt’s Run refund policy?
- All sales are final and no transfer of registration.
